NT: Howard to support public EI inquiry if needed
JOHN HOWARD says he'll support a public inquiry into equine influenza .. if tests conducted
today require one.
The racing industry's been brought to a halt .. after a national standstill was ordered
on Saturday when signs of horse flu were detected in NSW.
Speaking in Darwin today .. the PM said Federal Agriculture Minister PETER MCGAURAN
is carefully examining the situation.
Mr HOWARD says if it's then found necessary to have a public inquiry .. he would of
course support it.
Mr MCGAURAN's confirmed tests are being conducted .. and he'll receive the results
later this afternoon.
