WA:WA sending help to Queensland

PERTH, Feb 2 AAP - Western Australia will send two specialised personnel from the Fire
and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) to Queensland to help with the recovery of Cyclone
Yasi.

Emergency Services Minister Rob Johnson said Emergency Management Queensland had requested
the deployment of two people.

Mr Johnson said the personnel would assist in the aftermath of the cyclone, the impact
of which was expected to be more life-threatening than any experienced in recent generations.

"Tropical Cyclone Yasi is a large and very powerful tropical cyclone and poses a serious
threat to life and property within the warning area, especially between Cairns and Townsville,"

he said.

Mr Johnson said the personnel would leave Perth on Wednesday afternoon and would be
deployment in Queensland for up to two weeks.

He said FESA was prepared to send more teams of specialists if needed, with Urban Search
and Rescue (USAR) teams also on standby.
